Six green-thumbed Californians, all friends and family, joined together in Spring of 2008 to make waves in the renewable energy industry. Sick and tired of rising gas and electric rates, we looked around for a solution. One person in our group happened to subscribe to Inc., a magazine about start-up companies and entrepreneurship, and shared with us Inc.'s December 2007 article about SolarCity. We liked what we read about the company, how it's able to get solar panels installed on home and office rooftops faster, cheaper and more reliably than most competitors in the state.

April 2008 rolls around and suddenly SolarCity announced a new way to go solar with them that was too awesome to miss! With the new "SolarLease" (TM SolarCity) program, residents in California could get panels on their homes for less than their existing electric bills. All of a sudden, going solar meant spending less money on utilities each month from the get go!

Upon finding out about this SolarLease option, the members in our group with the highest household utility bill took the challenge and asked SolarCity for a free site visit. Within a week and a half, SolarCity designed and installed a solar system for their rooftop. There was no downpayment, and about 60% of the monthly savings they got from going solar paid for 100% of the monthly lease payment. There was no out-of-pocket expense, we were thrilled! To this day, the home that went solar has a meter that runs backwards for 11 hours, only changing direction when the panels shut down for the night. Its utility bill is gone, replaced with state-of-the-art, ultra-environmentally-friendly solar panels.

We were so excited about this new, utterly costless way to go green that we had to tell other people about it. That's how SaveWithSunlight.com was born.

SaveWithSunlight.com is an independent website run by Californians with the intent of promoting SolarCity's "SolarLease" program. Our only connection with SolarCity, Corp. is on an affiliate basis. None of the people on our team here at SaveWithSunlight work for SolarCity. We started this website more as an outreach program than a marketing tool, anxious to see more Californians enjoy the blessings of a solar-powered home as we have.
